  • BEGINNER-IMPROVER

    This is your Balboa entry level.
    You have already attended Balboa taster classes, taken a few Balboa classes or even participated in (a) workshop(s).

    You will learn and refresh the basic steps combined with cool moves.
    Furthermore, you will improve the basics and work on your technique and connection.

    In this level, you will enjoy 6 classes in total.
    3h on Saturday and 3h on Sunday.

  • INTERMEDIATE

    You have been taking Balboa classes on a regular basis for about ~1 year and participate in workshops. You are familiar with the fundamentals of Balboa including the single-time Pure Bal basics and double-time Pure Bal basics (down-holds and up-holds), side- and paddle-steps, Lolly kicks, Toss-out/Throw-out, swivels, Out-and-ins and/or crossovers.

    No need to be perfect at these, but you should be familiar with them. You will improve the basics and work on your technique and connection.

    You can dance the above mentioned steps and moves to songs between 160 bpm and 190 bpm.

    In this level you will enjoy 6 classes in total .
    3h on Saturday and 3h on Sunday.

  • INTERMEDIATE-ADVANCED

    You have been dancing Balboa for several years on a regular basis with weekly classes and participate in workshops.

    You can easily stay on time with the music and keep the rhythm without counting. You can dance easily and smoothly to songs between 180 bpm and 210 bpm. You are able to smoothly transition between moves and sequences.

    In addition to the fundamentals listed for the intermediate level, you know Toss-out/throw-out variations such as the following: behind-the-back toss-out/throw-out, reverse toss-out/throw-out (down lead’s left side) and similar, Texas-Tommy and variations, Maxie stop and slide and other swivel variations.


    You are looking to expand your Balboa repertoire with new combos & stylings and make them work on the social dance floor with any dance partner.

    In this level, you will enjoy 6 classes in total.

  • ADVANCED

    You have been dancing Balboa for a long time, participate in weekly classes and locals as well as international workshops. The Balboa fundamentals and rhythms are natural to you.

    Additionally to the requirements listed for the intermediate-advanced level, you should have a broad repertoire of moves and stylings that can be danced with most partners, including less experienced dancers.

    Tempo wise you feel comfortable to dance Balboa to songs from 190 bpm to as fast as 230 bpm.

    You are interested in improving leading and following skills through for example adjustments of posture, connection, balance, moves and stylings.

    Classes in this level might also touch more conceptual ideas such as musicality, aesthetics, flow, individuality or partnership. Focus will be less on quantity but more on quality.
